Tordesillas recreates the arrival of Queen Juana I of Castile

On Saturday, 5 March, it will return to the year 1509, when she made her entry into the town

On Saturday, 5 March, Tordesillas will celebrate the arrival of Queen Juana I of Castile to the town in 1509 with a procession that will travel through its main streets and squares.

1509 was the year in which Queen Juana I of Castile entered Tordesillas for the first time, a place that would be linked to her life forever.

On that day she did so accompanied by her father, Ferdinand the Catholic, her daughter Catherine, and the entourage that accompanied her along with her ladies-in-waiting, the palace staff and the mortal remains of her husband, Philip, known as the Handsome.

On Saturday 5 March, the anniversary will once again be remembered with a re-enactment of that day. A recreation that has been carried out since 2005 and which, in five acts, takes in some of the most emblematic areas of Tordesillas, such as its main square, the Puerta de la Villa, the Casas del Tratado or the church of San Antolín.

It was in this church where she would remain locked up for the next forty-six years of her life, until her death.

A historical recreation in which the young woman chosen to play Queen Juana I of Castile will have a special role, as well as the girl who will play her daughter Catalina. On this occasion, the young Marta Rojo will be in charge of playing the queen, while the girl Carla Domínguez will play the role of Catherine of Austria.

A unique occasion to remember one of the great passages in the history of Spain, the arrival of Queen Juana I of Castile to the place that would remain linked to her life forever.
