This was the distance travelled by Emperor Charles V on his last journey to Yuste after disembarking in Laredo
90 leagues separated Laredo from the Monastery of Yuste. That was the distance travelled by Emperor Charles V on his last journey after disembarking in Laredo until he reached Yuste.
Three figures mark this post:
The number of stages the journey was divided into: 21.
The total number of days taken to make the journey: 40.
90 leagues. This is the distance covered by the imperial retinue from the time it left Laredo five days after disembarking at Salvé Beach in Laredo.
We said that the total number of stages covered was 21. In other words, each stage covered just over four leagues – 4.28, to be precise. In other words, around 24 kilometres each day, which, for the time, with the roads and the retinue that accompanied the emperor, can be considered a more than respectable figure.
And best of all: all this in a total of 40 days, given that although the emperor disembarked in Laredo on 28 September 1556, he did not leave the seaside town until after five days, which he used to rest and prepare for the journey.
